THE RADIOTHERAPY DEPARTMENT CONSISTS OF:
  • Outpatient Radiotherapy Department
  • Inpatient Radiotherapy Department
  • Brachytherapy Department
  • Radiotherapy Department in Legnica
    (DCO branch in Legnica)
TASKS:

Radiotherapy is a method of cancer treatment; it is used to kill cancer cells using ionizing radiation. Two radiotherapy methods are used. In the case of External beam radiotherapy, the source of ionizing radiation is placed outside the patient’s body. The treatment is performed with a linear accelerator. The other method is brachytherapy where a radiation source is placed inside or next to the tumor.

In the Radiotherapy Department patients are treated on an outpatient or inpatient basis. We treat cancers of the head and neck, lungs, prostate, breast, brain, stomach, rectum, colon, soft tissue sarcoma, lymphoma and other types. In cooperation with the surgery and chemotherapy departments we perform combined treatment which significantly improves outcomes.

  • We use radiosurgery (stereotactic radiotherapy) to treat single brain metastasis, certain brain tumors and other intracranial conditions.
  • We use total body irradiation before bone marrow transplantation in children and adults.
  • We closely cooperate with the Clinic of Paediatric Oncology, Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation in the treatment of malignant cancers in children.
